Spring (and school) is almost ending! 👀 Whether you're getting paid this summer or not, you want more dough in your pockets—so you can have some summer fun, survive summer school, get ahead of next year's school expenses, or afford #adulting as a new grad. Here are ways to spend smarter in the month of May. 🙌
Stuff that's cheaper in May
Spring apparel 👚👕
Stores are cleaning out their inventory for summer clothing. Take advantage of spring clearance sales everywhere, especially for items you can wear for summer too! These will especially get crazy during Memorial Day holiday sales. However, don't do this if you plan on splurging during summer anyway. Buying things on discount don't necessarily mean you're actually saving money. 🤔
We all know how crazy demand gets during summer. Try to get some before the summer craze at cheaper prices, especially at Memorial Day sales. The only big exception is the Victoria Secret Semi-Annual Sale in early June (for the 🙍).
May the fourth be with you 👽✨
To the Star Wars fans, you'll love this one! Here's some of the best Star Wars deals through May 4. But you have to promise to spend within your means... #selfcontrol

Xbox One: Star Wars games up to 75% off through weekend

May in-season produce 🍓
Fruits and produce are cheaper and fresher in-season! Win-win for your wallet, taste buds and body. Some May ones include asparagus, apricots, mangoes, lettuce, cherries, strawberries and zucchinis—just to name a few. Check out this spreadsheet to find seasonal produce specific to your state!
Long weekends = crazy mattress sales. Name a more iconic duo. If you need better sleep for the summer or new school year, take advantage of Memorial Day holday sales. Check out Wayfair for up to 75% off, Sears for 60% off, etc.
Party supplies 🎉
With graduation and summer around the corner, more parties and social gatherings are happening. If you like to throw parties and host friends, May is the time to stock up on party supplies (especially basics like napkins, plates, etc.).
Flowers for the mother 👩👦💐
If you can't think of anything creative to give your mom on Mother's Day, you can stick with the classic (discounted) flowers! This especially works well if you're not able to celebrate with her in person. Perhaps try 1-800 Flowers: Get 20% off purchase until May 9 using the code SAVE20MDAY.
Stuff not to buy in May
Summer attire ☀️
You already know the deal. Buying clothing in season is always the costliest!
Athletic gear 🏋️
Last year, June had more activewear deals than both May and April. So hold off on this! Keep your eyes on retailers like Champion Outlet. Lululemon's "We Made Too Much" sale section can also have crazy good deals.
Laptops and desktops 💻
School's ending, so the timing is terrible. Start looking at these in late June or early July when some back-to-school sales begin, including at the Apple Store.
